This painting by John Trumbull depicts the death of General Mercer at the Battle of Princeton, New Jersey during the Revolutionary War. The scene is chaotic with chaos and confusion evident in horses galloping and soldiers fighting in hand to hand combat. General Mercer can be seen lying lifelessly on the ground in center of the painting.
